Lotus Mk 6 (1954-55)

Unique opportunity to buy what basically is a brand new Lotus Mk 6, I used to own chassis No59 and this is an exact copy. This chassis was number 4 of a batch of 11 cars I built 25 plus years ago. It has a number of suspension components from an original car that was written off in the early 1960’s, these are stamped with the chassis number from that car I have given it a chassis number with from that car as it constitutes a continuation of that car, there is a chassis plate. I’ve had had this in storage for more than 25 years, it is a rolling chassis as can be seen, but needs finishing off. All the hard work has been done, chassis all jig built on a dedicated steel jig, all gas/fusion welded as per original. The steering is a modified Morris Minor rack as this was a mod done by a number of owners in period, the driving experience is vastly improved over the modified Ford steering box setup. The braking system is set up for hydraulic brakes front and rear twin leading shoe front single rear. The rear axle is a modified BMC. Sprite which has 4 radius arms Spherical joints axle end rubber bushes car end and a pan hard arm for lateral location with the same joint set up as the radius arms so the back end is totally adjustable. Front axle is as Standard Lotus 6 but with straight radius arms as per Ron Gammons car UPE 6 (same steering set up as well). The car sits on 4J wire wheels original front and rear, of Dunlop manufacture. There is included a 4 speed BMC sprite gearbox which is set up too fit the chassis including a shortened prop shaft. The engine that was going to be fitted was a BMC 1275 sprite there is the front mounting plate (see photos) which has been modified to fit the chassis. The alternative power unit could obviously be the Coventry Climax FWA or Ford 100E this would be an easy installation as engine mountings can be used, I have a pump engine that is partly modified that could go with the car enquire. The body is Aluminium apart from the nose and rear wings all as original spec, the removable exterior side vents each side of the engine bay have been pressed out of one piece of sheet as original and not welded up from numerous pieces of alloy sheet. There is a bonnet bulge with the car it has not been fitted so can be dependent on what engine is used. This car will be eligible to enter many classic race events when finished as it is a faithful reproduction of the original car. Please look at the photos any questions please phone me. Also all the jigs (tube forming) moulds, patterns drawings both paper and AutoCad, all the brackets are drawn so can be laser cut, please enquire separate sale. I’m an ex Aerospace Designer/Engineer so everything has been done correctly. To my understanding you could use a V5 from a sprite or pushing it from a Morris Minor to reg it for road use, my intention was to use it in competition. Any more info please either text, e mail or phone me.
