1300cc air-cooled VW Type 1/2/3 engine. Restrictions on valve sizes, bore & stroke; compression ratio and camshaft are free. Induction is two chokes, with restrictor plates. Engine power is about 85bhp and average lap speeds are 90 - 95 mph.
Chassis & Body
Single-seaters, of free design and construction. Chassis are available from a variety of constructors, self-designed or often converted Formula Ford 'Kent' chassis. Wings and other aerodynamic aids are prohibited.
Front is VW axle, hubs, stub axles and torsion bar. The majority of the VW rear suspension components have to be used.
VW ‘Beetle’ discs (or drums) on the front with VW drums on the rear.
The VW Type 1 gearbox must be used, along with set VW ratios. Limited slip diff or similar traction-control is prohibited.
All cars must use the Hoosier control tyre.
There are seven double-header race weekends, comprising 14 rounds in the 2018 season - including a trip to Ireland's Mondello Park.
Club membership is just £25 for 12 months, season registration is £130, and double-header weekend entry fees (qualifying and 2 x 15min races) are typically between £250 and £350 depending on the circuit. Eligible cars are available secondhand from just £5000.
