For Sale, The Blue Tailed Eagle - 750 Formula car.
I built this transverse engined car back in 2014 and raced it in the 2015 championship.
This car was built around the Fiat Seicento engine, gearbox and drive shafts, all mounted behind the driver. The ignition is Megajolt and the carb is the fairly standard SU (half of it) All the hoses are silicone. The exhaust is a bespoke 4 into 1 manifold and the inlet is a "log type"manifold. The head obviously complies with the 750 formula rules with respect to the correct serial number and the 750 formula control camshaft. New valve seats were cut and valves fitted whilst putting the engine together.
The chassis is built with strength and safety in mind and is generally fabricated from 1 inch box with the roll hoop legs going right down to the floor and with significant front stay bars. The seat cushion is made from energy absorbing foam- with a layer of comfy body form foam.
The front of the car houses the fuel tank, the battery and the radiator which has an electric fan for the times sitting stationary with the engine running. All of the blue sections of the body are made from Fibreglass taken from female moulds , all of which come with the car - as do the wishbone jigs. The car complied with all of the msa and formula rules in 2015.
The Blue tailed eagle comes with two sets of wheels, one wearing slicks, the other with wet tyres. There is a box of assorted spare parts and a second untouched engine and gearbox.
The trailer is self built and has been through the IVA process I have the IVA certificate. It's rated for a max weight of 750 kg (which it is within when loaded with the car) and is unbraked. I have towed the trailer for a few thousand miles without any issues. - there is a spare wheel.
Since the final race 10 years ago It has sat in its trailer inside my barn and now I realise that I'm never going to race it again so it's time to find a new owner. I've recently emptied and flushed through the old fuel and have run the engine on clean fuel. Obviously it needs some light re-commissioning but I think that this will mainly consist of lubricating things like the throttle cable, gear linkage etc. The harness and fire extinguisher are out of date. I fitted a new Trigger wheel and the ignition timing hasn't been finely adjusted. - it's close!
The Blue Tailed Eagle is located a few miles south of Stornoway on the Isle of Lewis. I would be happy to get it across the minch on the ferry to Ullapool so that it can be collected from the mainland. I would prefer for the car to be collected from my home so that I can spend a few hours going through the design to explain how it was built and where fastenings are etc.
